Managing Weight Through the Holidays

Hey guys, anybody eat too much over Thanksgiving?! Yeah, me too. Just because there's lots of food out there over the holidays doesn't mean we can't maintain our weight. Here's a few tips to help keep it off in the face of all those goodies:
1. Drink lots of water! It will help you feel full, flush out all that bad stuff, and make you overall look & feel better.
2. Sleep! Too little sleep is thought to keep body fat in place. You need 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night...sleeping less has been found to actually reduce muscle mass; plus you feel hungrier due to higher levels of an appetite boosting hormone.
3. Keep Working Out!  It's easy to get busy and make it less of a priority, but ditching your normal workout routine through the whole season combined with those holiday foods and less sleep will equate to a lot of added pounds.
4. Get Help! No, not a therapist (unless you want), but have something or someone hold you accountable. A few ideas: write down your goals and share them with a friend/spouse; enlist a friend to workout with you; join something that you find fun and easy to commit to (well you have Zumba so check that one off the list!).
6. Indulge! A little anyway...it doesn't help to totally deny yourself of all those goodies. In fact, in most cases it does the opposite because you end up focusing on what you can't have. If you let yourself have some every once in a while, you will feel more satisfied and less likely to binge when you slip.
5. No Worries! Even if you do eat too much or skip the workout don't feel guilty about it. Look forward and start over. Feeling guilty won't help you reach your goals, in fact it will sabotage them! And besides, in the end, no one is perfect and you are beautiful just the way you are!!!
